Brookside Marks 20th AnniversaryJanuary 24, 2013
On Sunday, January 6, 1985, a formal discussion program was held at the Croghan Mennonite Church. One of the goals of that discussion was to look into establishing a faith based retirement community.
On July 13, 1993 (8 years, 6 months and 7 days after the suggestion was originally voiced) the first residents of Brookside Senior-Living Community moved in. At that time the facility was comprised of 10 patio home units on Hummingbird Lane, and the congregate building, which consisted of 30 apartments, an activity room and dining room. By the end of that year, 22 of the congregate apartments and 5 patio homes were occupied. During 1996-1997, 10 more patio homes were added on Cardinal Lane. The congregate building had some changes as well with the addition of the 400 wing, guest room and salon. From 2003-2006, Brookside Circle was developed, with the addition of 19 patio home units.
The facility will expand once again in 2013 with the construction of 4 more patio homes on Bluebird Lane. These units will be available for occupancy in late summer/early fall. Brookside Retirement Community will have grown to a total of 84 residences, consisting of 41 congregate apartments and 43 patio style homes. All have been spoken for, with waiting lists for every housing option.
Once a dream, today residents at Brookside live comfortable, safe, secure lives, surrounded by friends who enjoy the privileges offered by a lifestyle full of purpose.
